Cottage Insurance Quote request
Typically, Cottages or vacation properties are best listed on your home
insurance policy as a "Secondary" or "Seasonal" location. The benefit of
this is that you only pay one liability premium and are able to spread
contents out between the two locations, however, there are many
insurance companies that do not permit this if the cottage does not meet
specific requirements (some of which are listed below).
One area to pay attention to when insuring cottages or vacation
properties, either on a stand alone basis or as a second location on
your home insurance, is that more often than not the breadth of coverage
on the cottage can be substantially different then on your principal
residence.
There can be some restrictions on the coverages provided by the
insurance company due to several reasons. Often one or more of the
following may apply to our cottage properties:
not a fire hydrant protected property
not within 8km of a fire hall
NOTE: It really pays to do some research here and clock the actual
distance in your car to the nearest fire hall i.e.: Gallway Rd. (We did
and it saved our family almost $300 per year!)
not permanently occupied
not fire resistive construction
it's a water access only property
the cottage is not on a municipally maintained year around road
We would be pleased to offer you some comparison quotations on your
cottage and/or home & auto insurance and we have access to all the major
cottage insurers.
If nothing else it will demonstrate you are being well looked after
where you are which is worth something in this day and age. Plus, it
costs nothing to get quotes!

importance of placing coverage with reputable insurers that will be
